2025 Community Grants

In 2025, the Madison County Health Department allocated funds for new and innovative public health initiatives that benefit our local community here in Madison County. A total of 5 grants were given, benefiting different 501c3 non-profits locally.

Berea Community Outreach

Berea Community Outreach (Berea Food Bank) received funds to launch their ‘Slow Cooker Program’; which provided slow cookers, healthy whole foods and recipe and instruction booklets to Madison County residents utilizing food bank services. The program showed great success, benefiting nearly 300 residents and providing not only the foods, but the skills and the means for healthy, home cooked meals for years to come.

Berea Farmers Market

Berea Farmers Market created the ‘Sprout Voucher Program, which provided vouchers to Madison County youth for use on healthy, locally grown produce at the farmers’ market. Hoping to create a lifetime of healthy eating habits, the project showed success with youth across multiple different events throughout Madison Couty, and boasted a nearly 90% redemption rate!

Dry Dock Club

Dry Dock Club’s ‘Meeting Support’ project provided recovery literature and meeting space upgrades, including presentation supplies. The support of MCHD contributed to increased attendance, provided free materials to participants, and allowed the program to be better equipped to serve their community.

Grow Appalachia (Berea Kids Eat)

Grow Appalachia utilized their funds to improve and expand on their ‘Glades Garden’ project; benefitting at least 700 youth over this past summer alone. The community ‘Glades Garden’ was expanded by adding electrical, sinks for hand and produce washing, and the existing garden beds were repaired and new garden beds were created. Glades Garden hosts food and gardening workshops regularly throughout the growing season, for Madison County youth.

Hopes Wings

Hopes Wings Domestic Violence Center was awarded funds for the creation of a new ‘Peer Mentor Program’. Hope’s Wings consulted with an agency in the UK to co-develop a protocol and peer mentor handbook, as well as training its volunteers. The program is just getting started, and is thought to be one of the first of its kind in the US! The volunteers received ‘trainer’ training to ensure the long term success and sustainability of the program.
